Mistshore - Waterdeep Dragon Heist, Chapter 10

Agorn Fuoco sat waiting for the play to begin. This was his tenth viewing of the performance of Blood Wedding and he was as excited tonight as he was opening night - if not more so for by now he knew the play by heart and he anticipated what was to come.

His companion, the priestess Amath Sercent, was less enthused. She continued to look around, "I don't see her! She's late! That washed up pirate wench was supposed to deliver the stone tonight!"

"Shh! She'll be here! Don't worry! Just enjoy the production!"

Amath rolled her eyes. She had no interest in the theater. "Why do you like this stupid play so much?"

"Blood Wedding? What's NOT to love? Its a a play about love, jealousy, and death. In the story, a young woman is brought to a castle by a count, only to fall in love with his younger brother, a man of faith. Her betrayal eats away at the jealous count. He murders his brother on his wedding day and pursues the bride, who hurls herself off the castle battlements in despair. The count is cursed by the gods and transformed into a creature of darkness, damned to live in his castle and feed on blood."

Recounting the plot out loud suddenly gave Agorn an idea.

"What? What's that look for?" said Amath through narrowed eyes.

"I just thought of a solution to my problem at home, a solution to what has been holding me back!  A bold act that will sever my ties to my so-called old family and will cement my position within my new family in the Zhentarim! An audatious act that will surely impress Manshoon! It's in the play, you see? It gave me the idea! By the Gods what a masterpiece, like - on so many levels! Yes. Yes, I think I know what I must do."

"Whatever. Shut up. There she is! She looks like she's in a hurry. Ugh, what is she wearing? Here she comes. She'll make the drop and we'll leave. I told my coach driver to be ready."

"We're not staying for the performance?" asked Agorn, dejectedly.

"No! Of course not! Especially if that nautical hussy is being followed. She'll give you the stone and we'll go. Now get ready. Here she comes!"

CHAPTER 10
"MISTSHORE"

The Mystics of Trollskull Manor:
  • Winterfrost of House Silverspear - Neutral Good Moon Elf Noble and Fighter. The daughter of elven diplomats, raised among dwarves.
  • Etlenda, aka "Exile" - Neutral Good Eladrin Outlander and Paladin. Exiled from the Feywild and raised by wolves. While exploring the Feydark he crossed over into the Underdark and emerged into the Mortal World.
  • Tempus Vegvisir - Lawful Good Human Trade Sheriff and Cleric of Helm. Husband and Father.
  • Push-ta Tok - Neutral Half-Orc Former Smuggler and Rogue.
  • Kem Hearthfire - Chaotic Good Half-Orc Former Gladiator Priestess of Gond.
DM- The Mystics of Trollskull Manor head down to Mistshore in search of Agorn Fuoco. They did well but I made a common DM mistake - I'll post the explanation of my mistake and my apology to my players after the write-up.

Meanwhile...

After the events at the theater, the Mystics of Trollskull Manor returned to their home to rest.

Push-ta summoned forth a flying snake and sent a message to Davil Starsong asking for more information about Agorn Fuoco - the man to whom Vevette handed the stone. Push-ta received a response the next morning. The message read:

Agorn dreamed of becoming a famous bard but he had no success so he decided to devote himself to the Zhentarim, quickly advancing through the ranks thanks to his puppy like devotion to Manshoon.

Meanwhile, jealous of Etlenda's ability to change his appearance, Winterfrost stopped off at Fala Lefalir's apothecary shop to purchase some magical hair-color potions. She immediately drank one to change her white hair to red.

Mistshore

The team assembled and trudged through the fresh snow towards Mistshore on the other side of Waterdeep. They arrived at the dilapidated neighborhood around mid-morning. Mistshore was a slum that had suffered a large fire a year previous. Much of the neighborhood still lay in charred ruins. The remaining structures were built from partially disassembled ships and boats turned upside down with tarp-like roofs and walls made from canvas sails. The wretchedly poor inhabitants huddled around small fires. Burly toughs leaned against walls on several corners.

The way ahead of them was blocked by a two-horse hire-coach. The coach driver sat impatiently in the driver's seat, rubbing her hands to keep warm.

Push-ta told the others to wait behind the coach. He would scout ahead. He passed his hand over his face and his appearance changed to that of a human, a full foot shorter than his normal 7 foot height but still strikingly tall. Tempus summoned forth his magical bat, Edward, and instructed his familiar to ride on Push-ta's shoulder. In that way, Push-ta could remain in contact with the rest of the team as he explored ahead.

Push-ta took a long route around some nearby structures to get in front of the coach. He walked through the snow-covered neighborhood, listening carefully to conversations and closely observing the attitude of the local toughs.

As he navigated the twisting gaps between the makeshift hovels he overhead a small group of locals mention something about Grinda - that her crazy invention was nearing completion and that she was looking to hire pilots to help her find the treasure. This information piqued Push-ta's interest.

He also saw a heavily damaged ship. On board the deck were nearly a dozen surly looking mercenaries. He recognized the name - Kraken's Folly. It was the home of a group of freelance mercenaries which the Zhentarim sometimes employed.

At the end of the alley, located at the end of an old pier, was a rickety workshop. A sign hung outside - Grinda Garloth - Alchemist and Inventor

He returned to the others with this information.

The Coach Driver

The team moved around the waiting coach. Etlenda and Tempus engaged the driver in idle conversation. They learned that her name was Rowan Evenwood. She ran a coach-for-hire out of the Castle Ward. She said she was unavailable as her current fare paid her extra to wait for his return - though she was beginning to be impatient as it was very cold.

When asked about the fare she said she picked him up at a walled villa in the Castle Ward, brought him here, and that he went off "that way" indicating a direction towards the Kraken's Folly. She also said that she had picked him and a woman up the night before at the theater. She took them back to the walled villa in the Castle Ward and asked her to come back today for this job.

Rowan gave Tempus her calling card, saying, "If you ever need to hire me, send a messenger to this address with the day and whether you need me first light, mid-morning, high sun, mid-afternoon, etc. I'll be there."

Grinda Garloth

The Mystics of Trollskull Alley deduced that Agorn was meeting with this "Grinda" person to use the Stone of Golorr to help search for "the Treasure". They ventured into the  narrow winding alleys of Mistshore and located Grinda's shop. They heard children throwing snowballs at each other on the ice of the frozen bay beneath the pier.

They knocked on the door and a woman called out, "Are you here about the advertisement?"

They said yes and soon the door was opened. A woman in her late fifties grinned at them appreciatively. She had unkempt hair, wore goggles atop her head, and a thick leather apron. Her hands were stained with oil and grease and grime. "Welcome! Welcome! Come in! I suppose you'll want to see the machine then!"

Grinda Garloth led them past her messy sleeping room containing a work bench and an unmade bed and into an adjoining workshop. Within the workshop was a large shape covered by a tarpaulin. Grinda paused to build suspense before pulling away the tarpaulin with a flourish. "This- is my apparatus!"

It was a large metal machine with a cylindrical body big enough for two people to sit within. It was supported by six heavy metal legs like crab legs. Two manipulators were folded up beneath the front. Several thick port-holes allowed visibility from within as well as a periscope.

DM- My players groaned. An Apparatus of Kwalish? AGAIN? They had one in Ghosts of Saltmarsh and didn't really like it. But that was mostly because they all already had the ability to breathe underwater except for the dwarf. He alone got stuck in the Apparatus and it is not designed to be operated by only one person.

Grinda explained that she designed it to scour the bottom of the bay for treasure. She had previously experimented with smaller devices but ran into problems when a large intelligent shark named Obliteros. So she designed this larger armored vehicle. Now she just needed two pilots to test the vehicle - so she had posted the advertisements in the broadsheets.

She also explained that she didn't have much to offer by way of payment. She had sought funding for her work from the House of Inspired Hands. They denied her the grant she sought because she refused to turn over the finished device to the Temple of Gond.

Suddenly Grinda recognized Kem. Kem was an acolyte of Gond and a volunteer at the House of Inspired Hands. Grinda became suspicious, accusing Kem of being a spy sent to steal her work!

Kem assured her this was not the case.

Although Tempus considered the offer. He asked Grinda how she would deal with the bronze dragon that lived in the bay.

"There's a bronze dragon in the bay?" was her reply.

"Yes. His name is Zelifarn," said Tempus.

"How do you know this?"

"I've met him, " was Tempus' confident reply.

"You've met him - at the bottom of the bay. I suppose you did this using magic potions or some such."

"Of course."

"But don't you see?" said Grinda, enthusiastically, "My device is mechanical. It does not rely on magic. Any regular person can pilot my device to the bottom of the ocean. No magic is necessary! It is my dream to create many such machines! Perhaps machines to replace the horse on the roads - or fly from country to country like the giant roc! This is my dream!"

Tempus considered the offer to test the device but was reminded of their mission.

"Right, of course. Grinda, do you know someone named Agorn Fuoco?"

Grinda rolled her eyes, "Yes. He's a real piece of work that one! Left his poor mother to become an actor or something useless. Never comes back to visit the poor dear. That would be his mother, Marta.  She lives a few houses down." Grinda pointed in the direction of the hovels attached to the base of the hulk of the Kraken's Folly.

"Thanks. We're going to have to say no to your job for now, but we might come back."

"Don't wait too long! I have other applicants, you know!"

A Bit of Matricide

The team made haste to the hovel of Marta Fuoco. The entrance was little more than a dirty curtain. They entered and found a well-dressed man smothering an old woman with a pillow. He picked up his pillow to check if she was still breathing. She wasn't. He smiled, "It is done. I am free!"

Winterfrost leaped across the room, kicking the man away from the old woman and shoving him against the far wall. He was outraged, "How dare you? Don't you know who I am? I'm Agorn Fuoco! ACTOR!"

Tempus ran to the aid of the woman, saying a prayer to spare the dying.

Push-ta and Kem ran around the outside of the hovel to cover the rear exit. Etlanda covered the main entrance.

Agorn Fuoco stood up straight, dramatically proclaiming, "You leave me no choice! I will teach you a lesson using the power of - ACTING!" He clutched his heart with his right hand, and thrust forth his left hand into the air. He bellowed, "To BE! Or NOT to be! THAT is the question!" The thunderous wave of his voice pushed against Tempus and Winterfrost with powerful force!

Push-ta countered with a magical shocking grasp attack.

Tempus said a prayer and a sonorous bell pealed around Agorn. He clutched his head in pain.

Kem smashed her hammer against the bard's head. "Not the face!" he protested. Kem followed up with a prayer of healing for the old woman. She began to cough and breathe.

Agorn regained his regal composure and pointed his finger towards the entrance, behind Tempus and Winterfrost and Etlenda. He dramatically declared, "Hark! What light through yon window BREAKS!" and the air shattered, splintering wood and causing Winterfrost to feel as if her bones were cracking.

The team ganged up on the bard, smashing him with hammers and clubs and the flats of their swords. He threw up his hands in surrender, "Okay! Okay! You have bested me! The curtain falls on act one. But surely, I will be saved by deus ex machina in act two!"

Everyone stood still, confused, for a moment. There was silence.

Agorn said again, louder, "I said- SURELY - I WILL BE SAVED BY DEUS EX MACHINA IN ACT TWO!"

Again, silence.

Agorn shouted, "THAT'S YOUR BLOODY CUE YOU MORONS!"

The team heard the sound of tromping boots through the snow as several groups of surly bruisers appeared from the shadows, drawing swords and crossbows as they moved towards the hovel.

Enter Thugs

The approaching thugs had the hovel surrounded - some sent crossbow bolts at Etlenda at the entrance, forcing him to hide behind his shield. Other thugs circled around the hovel towards the rear entrance. Kem moved to intercept while Push-ta harried them with his own crossbow.

At that moment, Tempus heard a loud crack and a splash of water followed by the sound of children screaming. He looked out the back and saw that one of the children playing on the ice had broken through and was drowning.

"Are you kidding me right now?" he said, exasperatedly, as he moved past Kem and climbed down the piling at the corner of the dock to reach the ice.

The road warden moved carefully across the ice and got down on his belly to reach out and grab the drowning boy. He pulled the boy out and dragged him towards the shore where the boy's two friends waited.

Meanwhile, the fight around the hovel had garnered the attention of the mercenaries on the nearby Kraken's Folly. They called out, mockingly, "Oy! Pay us and we'll help you fight!"

The thugs sneered, "Fuck off! We don't need your bloody help!"

Push-ta called up to them, "Hey! I'll pay a dragon for each one of these creeps you kill for us!"

"Yer on!" The mercenaries began peppering the thugs with crossbow bolts.

Tempus sent his bat, Edward, to fly above and behind the thugs by the rear entrance. To everyone's surprise, the bat exhaled a fan of deadly cold white dragon's breath on the thugs.

Push-ta killed one of the thugs with his own crossbow. One of the mercenaries shot a bolt into the floor next to Push-ta. Push-ta called up, "Hey! Attack them, not us!"

"Fuck you! You took my kill! You owe me a dragon!"

"The hell I do!" shouted Push-ta.

"Then the way I figure it. If you got all these dragons to pay us for killing these fellas. How about I just kill you and take all those dragons?"

The other mercenaries paused to consider this.

Push-ta grimaced at the thought. Luckily, he was saved when Edward the bat exhaled another blast of cold dragon breath, killing the last of the thugs.

Fireball

Meanwhile, at the front entrance, Etlenda was holding the line behind his shield as Winterfrost bound and gagged Agorn.

Etlenda said, "They're moving in. I could use some help up here."

Winterfrost moved next to Etlenda. The tips of crossbow bolts stuck through the thin wooden walls. Winterfrost pulled a necklace out of her pocket. It was a necklace with two red beads that she had taken from the rain barrel after the attack on the street in front of their house.

She kissed the beads and threw them into the street.

The beads exploded in a great burst of flame, killing all the advancing thugs.

The mercenaries on the deck of the Kraken's Folly instinctively ducked for cover. When it was clear, they rose slowly and began to applaud and cheer.

The snow was now melted. The pier and several of the makeshift hovels nearby were on fire. People were running in terror.

Winterfrost stared in awe at the destruction she had wrought.

Etlenda sheathed his sword and put down his shield, "Don't just stand there. You did this! Put the fire out!"

Winterfrost shook herself back to reality, "Oh, right, the hovels."

Clean-up

Winterfrost and Etlenda set about stomping out the fire. Edward the bat blew cold blasts to douse the flames. Winterfrost rescued a destitute couple who were trapped in their burning hovel. Feeling bad for the situation she put them in, she offered them paying jobs as housekeepers at Trollskull Manor.

DM- I unfortunately used the NPCs in the hovel to start a debate with the player - a thing that I acknowledged as a mistake immediately after the game - see below.

Down on the ice, Tempus made a pitch to the children to watch over and help protect Marta Fuoco. The children, being children, showed little interest in the work.

"Street urchins. Would you like to take care of an old lady for me? She's bed-ridden and can't leave her ramshackle hovel in the slums."

The children replied incredulously, "Uh, no? We want to be adventurers like you!" (clacking wooden swords)

Tempus countered, "Well, sure. Well, this is your chance to BE an adventurer like me!"

"Really? Awesome! Do we get to be your squire?"

Tempus said, "Sort of! Okay, to be an adventurer, you have to do the right thing, do what an adventurer would do. And what would an adventurer do?"

The kids replied in unison, "Take all the gold and leave and never come back!"

Etlenda shouted from up on the pier, "They're not wrong!"

A second child said, "Yeah, isn't that what you're about to do?"

The third child said, "Hey, yeah! Why don't YOU stay and take care of the old lady?"

Tempus, loosening his collar, awkwardly cleared his throat and coughed.

DM- again, I used the NPCs to debate with the player - another mistake which I talk about below.

The team brought the bound and gagged Agorn Fuoco back to the waiting coach. They told Rowan that they wanted to hire her to take Agorn to the nearest city watch station, then later to take them home.

On their way to a city watch station in the Castle Ward, they ungagged and interrogated Agorn. Agorn told them that he served Manshoon - the founder of the Zhentarim reborn! Manshoon had plans for taking over the Zhentarim in Waterdeep, and eventually all of Waterdeep. He said he didn't know where the stone was, currently.

Agorn refused to answer any questions about his accomplices. However, Rowan said that she had done regular work for Agorn and his companion - a woman named Amath Sercent. Amath was the one who lived in the walled villa and typically hired the coach. Rowan said that she often took Amath from her walled villa to an old tower called Yellowspire.

The team dropped Agorn off at the city watch station. The watch officers asked, "Okay? Who's this guy?"

They explained his crime and how they caught him in the act of trying to kill his mother.

After a short debate about evidence and accusation, the watch took Fuoco into custody.

DM- Again, I must have been in a mood because I inappropriately used the NPC to debate the player's actions. See below.

With that, the Mystics of Trollskull Manor returned home to plan their next move.

To Be Continued...

My DM Mistake

First things first - I do not consider this a big deal or anything. It's just something I noticed I was doing so I want to acknowledge that I realized I did it and I'll try to adjust in the future.

I was punishing my players for success and unnecessarily overcomplicating simple plans.

  • Tempus was just trying to get some kids to watch after an old lady in the neighborhood who obviously needed help.
  • Winterfrost was just trying to compensate some poor people for the damage his character had done to their ramshackle home and maybe make their life a little better.
  • All ya'll were just trying to deliver a bad guy to the proper authorities.

In each instance, I took a simple plan and tried to overcomplicate it with what, in my mind I guess, were mitigating factors that made the action seem implausible.

That was bad-DM'ing and what I SHOULD have done was "Okay, the kids promise to watch the old lady.", "You're offering us a job and willing to pay for damages? Thank you milady!", "We'll see this scumbag gets what he deserves!" and moved on.

I don't know why.

That's not true, I can think of several possible reasons.

Maybe it was because my personal biases see big social problems like poverty and crime as inherently complicated societal issues that are unsolvable by simple solutions so I reacted to simple solutions with knee-jerk implausibility.

Maybe because I'm seeing everything through the viewpoint of the NPCs so my brain is used to thinking what THEY'RE thinking, which is  often more complicated and nuanced than what the players are thinking because the players don't have all the info.

Maybe I was just in kind of a weird mood that night. I don't know.

But this is D&D and the players and their characters are the stars of the story and they should be rewarded for decisive action with decisive results, not push-back from the DM - complex social issues be damned!

I'm not saying my push-back was WRONG, mind you -

  • those kids just want to run around and play swords - they absolutely would NOT want to spend their day watching after an old lady instead of playing, even if they were paid. I mean, come on, they're like 10 year old kids!
  • the poor couple whose house was nearly burned down probably either lack the ability or have no desire to work for rich people in the North Ward - there could be a million reasons why they're poor, ranging from personal history or choices to complex and indirect societal factors - and they might have every reason to be suspicious of this stranger putting out a fire then offering them a job - from their point of view that would be random and frightening
  • You can't just drop a prisoner off at the city watch and say "This guy committed a crime!" with zero evidence. Usually, in this kind of setting, you make an accusation against the person and present your case to the magistrate. You might say "He's a witch!". The watch first evaluates, "is this a plausible accusation?" If so, they'll throw the accused in a cell, interrogate and torture them (torture's probably off the table in Waterdeep), then they'll have a trial in which the accuser makes their case using logic, evidence, witnesses, etc. Simply saying "I saw him do it" might not hold up. You need someone NOT making the accusation serve as a witness.

I'm saying I shouldn't have pushed back DURING THE GAME. It absolutely ruined any sense of accomplishment and damaged the flow and pacing of the game.

And for doing that, I apologize and I'll try not to do it in the future.

A Story About Flirtatious Grappling - Waterdeep Dragon Heist, Chapter 9

Push-ta quickly scaled the side of the building. He stood on the peaked roof covered in snow. He could see his quarry sixty feet away. She was partially obscured by the darkness of the rooftops and the falling snow, underlit by street lanterns and the occasional window. She moved quickly, darting around roofs and behind chimneys, leaping across alleys and landing upon the roof on the far side.

Push-ta gave chase. He moved faster than she but there was no way he could make some of those jumps. He took the long way around or stopped to find a shorter gap to cross, then picked up the trail through the snow on the far side.

He lost sight of her. She was getting away. But her trail through the snow was clear, even in the darkness. She could run, but she couldn't hide.

CHAPTER 9
"A STORY ABOUT FLIRTATIOUS GRAPPLING"

DM- This week picks up where we left off last week. The Mystics of Trollskull Manor left the decrepit windmill, intent on finding the location of Cuttle's Meat Pies.

There were two challenges for me as a Dungeon Master this week - the first was the rooftop chase. I feel like I could have run it better. Only after I ran it did I have a revelation of a better way to do it that I will employ next time. The second was the attempt to capture and immobilize Vevette Blackwater. She is REALLY good and avoiding and escaping grapples and the players were getting VERY frustrated at her repeated escapes. In my mind's eye, it was a very fun scene reminiscent of kung fu movies but to the players it must have felt interminable!

Unfortunately, Kem Hearthfire's player was out sick this week.

Earlier That Day...

The Tiger's Eye

"Where the hell is Cuttle's Meat Pies?" asked Etlenda.

"I have no idea. We could spend all day searching the city for it." answered Push-ta.

"We could find out through the Butcher's Guild. Maybe Emmek Frewn knows someone in the Guild?" suggested Tempus.

"We're not talking to Emmek Frewn," growled Winterfrost, "I have a better idea."

A short while later they were knocking on the door of the Tiger's Eye. Vincent Trench, independent investigator and researcher, greeted them warmly, offering tea and biscuits.

Pleasantries were exchanged. Vincent was keen to know what had happened after the recent fireball across the street from his shop. Winterfrost told him much of what she knew, leaving out key details such as the Stone of Golorr. She did mention that the investigation led them to Thrakkus the butcher, who was selling human meat to local shops.

Vincent showed a keen interest in this development and seemed disappointed that Thrakkus had been killed and the situation had been resolved.

When asked about the location of Cuttle's Meat Pies, Trench smiled and said he would provide that information for free. Winterfrost protested and offered to pay for his services but Trench declined, saying that he had already obtained much information from Winterfrost by way of equal exchange. He gave directions to the pie shop in the Trade Ward.

Cuttle's Meat Pies

The snow was falling harder in the darkening sky as the Mystics of Trollskull Manor made their way to Cuttle's Meat Pies. They found the small shop in an alley in the Trade Ward. A sign hung in the window indicating that the shop was closed. They could see a woman in an apron through the front window sweeping the floor and cleaning up for the evening.

Winterfrost entered the small foyer and knocked on the door, apologizing for the interruption and asking the woman about a meat delivery she received a week previous.

The woman replied that they were closed and instructed them to come back tomorrow.

A gruff voice shouted from across the alley, "They must know the password! Get'em!"

Mistaken Identity

Five gruff and smelly bugbears poured out of a narrow passage across the alley brandishing morningstars. They charged the Mystics of Trollskull Manor.

DM- Etlenda's player asked "Are bugbears coming out of the sewer - like - a commonplace thing in Waterdeep? Should we be surprised by this?"

I replied, "It's not a common occurrence, no. But not completely unprecedented, I guess."

Push-ta stepped forward and said "There must be some mis-" but was cut off as the lead bugbrear brought its morningstar down upon him. Push-ta cursed and spun away, darting for the side of the alley away from the melee.

Etlenda and Tempus advanced to engage the bugbears. Winterfrost saw the woman inside the shop nervously closing her curtains but covertly watching the action like a nosy neighbor. Winterfrost left the foyer and likewise engaged the bugbears.

Three of the bugbears were killed or knocked unconscious. Winterfrost sent a stream of caustic acid towards the remaining two, badly damaging the face of the second.

The pair of bugbears made their escape, retreating towards the side passage. Winterfrost threw a bolt of lightning around the other bugbear like a lasso and reeled him back. The others grabbed the bugbear and restrained him for questioning. The bugbear with the face burned by acid escaped down a wastewater drainage grate at the end of the passage.

The bugbear refused to give up any secrets but revealed enough that the Mystics realized that he and the other bugbears were working for "the Guild" - which they understood to be Xanathar's Guild - and that the bugbears thought the Mystics were members of the Zhentarim Syndicate. The bugbears were trying to rescue a hostage being held by the Zhentarim in one of the houses in this alley - a house with no windows that only allowed entry to those with the right password. Unfortunately, the bugbears mistook the entrance to Cuttle's Meat Pies as the entrance to the Zhentarim house and assumed the Mystics knew the password.

Satisfied with the bugbear's answers, the Mystics of Trollskull Manor let him go. The bugbear escaped down the wastewater grate to join his companion.

Winterfrost returned to the entrance of Cuttle's Meat Pies. The curtains were drawn but she could see the the baker hiding within. Winterfrost tried to get her to come out. The woman inside replied in a heavily accented Luskan dialect, "No way! I don't want no trouble!"

DM - I described Sora Cuttle as looking like Lizzie from the recent season of British Baking Show, saying she was "a Wallace and Grommit character come to life!"

Winterfrost assured the woman that it was safe and that they simply wanted to ask her some questions.

The woman cautiously exited the shop. She said her name was Sora Cuttle. When asked about the meat deliveries, she said she received the last delivery a ten-day ago and that meat deliveries were uncommon in the winter. When asked if there was anything strange about the delivery, she said that it stopped at the house next door first - the one with the bricked up windows and no obvious entrance - before bringing the rest of the meat to her.

Etlenda told her that there would be no more meat deliveries from that supplier and that she needed to dispose of all the meat she obtained from there - it was dangerous! She agreed.

The Safe House

It was now dark and the snow was falling harder than ever.

The Mystics examined the house next door. Its windows were bricked up. They carefully made their way around the narrow gap separating the house from its farther neighbor. As Winterfrost squeezed past into narrow side-alley behond, she saw a plain door made of thick wood reinforced with iron bands. The door was slightly open. A wiry man with a scruffy chin watched a woman climbing the three-story walls towards the roof of Cuttle's Meat Pies. The man turned and spoke to someone inside the house, "There she goes. Right on time." He noticed Winterfrost in the side-alley and his eyes grew wide, "Shit! The Guild bastards are back! Get ready!"

He tried to close the door but Winterfrost rushed in, kicking the door wide. Inside was a sparse room with two chairs and a small plain table, a closed door led to an adjacent room and a fireplace kept this area warm. The wiry man at the door drew his rapier. The larger man inside picked up a heavy mace.

Winterfrost engaged them in battle. Etlenda grabbed Tempus and teleported, appearing in a puff of silvery mist inside the room behind the larger man with the mace.

Push-ta left the others and gave chase to the woman on the rooftop.

The big man was quickly knocked unconscious. The wiry man kicked Winterfrost in the chest, knocking her back against the open door, and darted past her into the side alley. Winterfrost gave chase and knocked him unconscious with her magical hammer. Winterfrost dragged him back into the house and both the wiry man and the heavy set man were tied to their chairs. Both men were tattooed with the flying snake - symbol of their affiliation with the Zhentarim.

Ott Steeltoes

The room beyond the door was likewise spartan with only a single chair, in which was tied an elderly Shield Dwarf. The dwarf was blindfolded. He wore thick steel-toed boots and on his head was a strange skull cap from which dangled multiple tassels like a jester's hat. Bells dangled from the tip of each tassel.

The dwarf stared around blindly, "Oh! There's been an altercation? Have my brothers in the Guild come to rescue me?"

The dwarf's blindfold was removed. Etlenda and Tempus conducted a quick interview. They determined that the dwarf's name was Ott Steeltoes. When Ott realized that the Mystics of Trollskull Alley were not affiliated with "the Guild", he refused to answer any additional questions. One thing that was obvious - the old dwarf was insane.

Given the contextual clues, the Mystics deduced that Ott worked for the Xanathar's Guild and that he was being held hostage by the Zhentarim. Ott had no knowledge of the Stone of Golorr.

They could hear more bugbears crawling out of the grate in the alley so they decided not to wait for the Zhentarim thugs to regain consciousness. They exited the safe house and climbed the building to follow Push-ta on the roof. Push-ta and the woman he was chasing now had at least two or three minutes head-start.

Rooftop Chase

The Blood Wedding

Push-ta followed the tracks in the snow to a ladder. He saw the woman across the street below, entering a theater through the front door with a handfull of other attendees.  The marquee was titled "The Blood Wedding". The show would be starting soon.

Push-ta climbed off the building and crossed the street. He quietly slipped in one of the front doors. The lobby was nearly empty as the last attendees were entering the theater to take their seats.  The ghost of a well-dressed man hovered in the lobby, greeting other attendees. Well that was - odd.

The woman was nowhere to be seen. She must have entered the theater.

Push-ta moved quickly and silently, slipping past the ghost and the ticket booth unnoticed. He stood at the rear of the theater, scanning the room.

The theater audience sat in terraced bench seats that descended towards the stage. A quartet played music on the stage but the curtain was otherwise down. He saw the woman, her winter cloak folded at her side, sitting in a middle row towards the far end of the theater.

Push-ta waved his hand over his face, casting an illusion to make himself resemble Floon, the professional escort they had rescued a few weeks ago. He approached the woman and sat down next to her.

She turned and smiled, "Floon? I wasn't expecting to see you here. How are you?" She was fooled.

Push-ta answered her question but he realized too late that only his appearance was changed - his voice was still that of a gruff half-orc smuggler.

The woman saw through the ruse and cursed. She grabbed her cloak and made her escape towards the exit at the right of the theater. Push-ta gave chase.

Oh No You Don't!

Push-ta caught up to her in the exit hallway. He grabbed her arm.

The woman glared at him. She twisted and ducked under his arm, causing it to twist. Push-ta lost his grip and she escaped.

She moved towards the lobby. Push-ta grabbed her again. Once more she turned and twisted and escaped his grasp.

This continued for nearly a minute as Push-ta would grab her and pull her back away from the lobby only to have her escape and move towards the lobby. With each grab, the woman's expression turned from annoyance to playful competition. She smiled wryly and her eyes began to twinkle. So too did Push-ta. He couldn't help but be impressed by her acrobatic dexterity!

She eventually made it into the lobby on her way towards the front door. The ghost in the lobby turned and noticed her hurried escape just as Push-ta caught her. The woman appealed to the ghost for help!

The ghost said, "Now see here! This will not do!"

Push-ta grimaced and dragged the woman outside through the front door and into the snowy night air of the street.

Caught!

Push-ta dragged the woman out into street just in time for his companions to arrive and help. They each rushed up and tried to grab the woman and hold her down but she was simply too flexible!

Etlenda became frustrated and drew his sword, striking her with the flat of his blade. She rubbed her arm in pain but smiled. She fled back into the lobby.

The others gave chase and eventually managed to hold her down and tie her legs and wrists. Still she struggled but she could not wriggle free.

Push-ta used an invisible magic hand spell to quickly root through her pockets. They came up empty.

"Shit! She doesn't have the stone!"

Once again the ghost intervened, "Now look here! This is a theater! I will not allow street violence to interfere with the performance!"

Tempus showed his road warden's badge, "I am a road warden charged with eliminating smuggling. I believe this woman is responsible for smuggling something into your theater and subsequently transferring it to someone within your theater! May we search and potentially interview the members of your audience?"

DM - Tempus rolled pretty good on his Persuasion check.

"No you may not! Nothing will interrupt the performance!"

Tempus thought about this, "There's a way I can find what I'm looking for discretely without interrupting the performance. May I and my associate here enter? No one will even notice?"

"Very well!"

Etelanda and Push-ta escorted the woman out of the lobby and onto the street for interrogation.

Tempus cast a spell to detect magic and he and Winterfrost quietly entered the theater. Winterfrost quietly moved to the far side of the theater by the exit. Tempus moved down the aisle to the front then crossed over. The only magic he detected was from the instrumentalists on the side of the stage.

A woman stood up from the back row and grabbed Winterfrost's shoulder, firmly but not violently, "Winterfrost, dear, you think you are being discrete but your intrusion is disrupting the performance. Allow me to escort you back to the lobby."

The woman was a sun-elf dressed in fine evening wear. Winterfrost recognized her immediately - Remallia Haventree. She had never met the Lady of Ulbrinter Villa but knew her by reputation. She was the leader of the group known as the Harpers.

Lady Haventree

As Winterfrost was a daughter of elven trade diplomats, Lady Haventree recognized Winterfrost as well. She asked Winterfrost and Tempus what they were doing. Winterfrost replied that they were searching for members of the audience to whom a woman may have handed a stone.

Lady Haventree said she saw a woman named Vevette Blackwater sit next to a man, pass him something, then leave being chased by that idiot Floon for some reason. She only noticed because the man with whom the woman spoke was under her surveillance.

That man was named Agorn Fuoco and she suspected him of being a high level agent of the Zhentarim Syndicate - specifically working for a faction led by a renegade named Manshoon. She was hoping to learn the identity of his upper level contacts. Vevette was a known member of Manshoon's faction but was lower ranking than Agorn, so she was ignored.

Soon after the handoff, Agorn got up with his companion, a priestess unaffiliated with the Zhentarim as far as she knew, and left the play. Agorn was visibly moved by the performance, wiping away tears.

She watched Agorn and his companion leave out a small side exit. She peeked out the door and saw them board a coach and leave.

She told Winterfrost that Agorn Fuoco was an aspiring bard who was rejected from the Harpers for his questionable morals. He lived and played music in the neighborhood known as Mistshore.

She confirmed that the woman in custody was Vevette Blackwater the woman who delivered the small package to Agorn. Vevette worked for the Zhentarim, specifically for a renegade faction under the leadership of someone calling himself Manshoon trying to take control of the syndicate from the Doom Riders.

Winterfrost thanked Lady Haventree for the information. Lady Haventree insisted that Winterfrost attend one of her balls sometime soon. Winterfrost agreed.

Vevette Blackwater

Outside in the cold night, Push-ta and Etlenda were interrogating the woman they had captured.

"What did you do with the stone?" demanded Push-ta.

"Oh, its long gone by now," she smiled, "and you'll never find it."

"Who are you working for?" he asked.

The woman smiled, "Why Push-ta, you and I work for the same team!" she grinned.

Push-ta looked at Etlenda aghast, "Uh, I- I don't know what you're talking about."

"Oh, I see that your little friends here don't know so don't worry, mum's the word. Yes, I know who you are. Your recent work has gotten you noticed by the higher ups. There's a lot of talk about you. I'll just say that while we work for the same team, you and I work for different masters. The old leaders are washed up. Pretty soon they won't mean anything and the new guy - the boss I answer to - will be in charge."

"Why would you work for him?"

"Why else? The money! The power! Pretty soon we'll have the treasure we'll be the most powerful faction in Waterdeep! You're working for the wrong side, Push-ta. You should come work for us. You and I would make a great team. I think it would be a lot of fun!" She winked.

Tempus and Winterfrost returned. Tempus said, "We know who has the stone. Some guy named Agorn Fuoco. He lives in Mistshore. We also know her name - it's Vevette Blackwater. She works for the Zhentarim."

Vevette grimaced as her aura of mystery was undercut by cold hard facts.

"What should we do with her?" asked Push-ta, nervously. He had actually come to like Vevette and didn't want to see her get hurt.

Winterfrost suggested, maliciously, "I can take care of her."

Tempus glared at the elf, "Winterfrost! No!"

Winterfrost helf up her hands, "Just kidding! I wouldn't do that! I just wanted to scare her."

"We'll set you free," said Etlenda, "but I want you to remember what we did for you."

They cut her loose. Vevette backed away, slowly, while rubbing her newly unbound wrists. She looked at Push-ta, "Bye bye, lover boy." She smiled before turning and running, disappearing into the night.

The Windmill in Winter - Waterdeep Dragon Heist, Chapter 8

There was a fumbling at the lock outside the exterior door to the larder. The Mystics of Trollskull Manor readied their weapons. The severed limbs of humans, elves, halflings, and other inhabitants of Waterdeep dangled from hooks in the ceiling.

The door opened. The cold light of the winter day poured into the larder. Snow swirled around the dragonborn standing silhouetted in the doorway. Thrakkus the Butcher put the key back into his apron pocket. He picked up his heavy cleaver and entered the room. He was shocked to see five intruders - the meddling interlopers who had recently bothered him in his shop - asking about that stupid stone!

His reptilian eyes flashed with anger. The secret of his larder had been discovered. He roared in anger.

The intruders rushed towards him. Thrakkus brandished his giant cleaver, inhaled a deep breath, and breathed a searing cone of flame upon his oncoming attackers!

CHAPTER 8
"THE WINDMILL IN WINTER"

DM- This weeks starts off with a week of faction quest grinding. Last week they went to the converted windmill and were ready to start the meat of the mystery. However, I wanted to get everyone's faction quests out of the way before that so I said the butcher shop was closed for a week. That gave them some times to power through a bunch of various level-4 faction quests. It was actually kind of complicated and I had to create tables to keep track of where each characters was spending their time and what each character was doing day by day.

Ten Days Earlier

The Mystics of Trollskull Manor followed the nimblewright's map to the ancient windmill in the Field Ward that now served as a butcher shop and apartments for squatters. The sign outside the shop said "Thrakkus closed - back in ten-day". The door was locked and no one appeared to be home so the team left, making plans to return in a ten-day.

That night they patrolled the graveyard and encountered a mysterious halfling necromancer.

DM - In order to keep track of who was doing which plot with whom and where they were, I had to play it day-by-day, asking each player in turn where they were and what they were doing in 8-hour "shifts". They didn't HAVE to do anything. I just had to keep track of where each character was in case they needed help from the others.

Thought Crimes

The next day, Tempus received a message from the Blackstaff. She had a mission for him. A member of Force Grey had been acting strangely of late. His name was Meloon Wardragon, and his happy-go-lucky demeanor had soured. He’d been hanging around the Yawning Portal more than usual.  Tempus was tasked to observe him for a tenday, then report back to to the Blackstaff.

Tempus spent the next several days watching Meloon hanging out in the Yawning Portal. Meloon was dour. He went out of his way to dissuade anyone from descending the great well into Undermountain.

Tempus asked the bartender, Durnan, about Meloon. Durnan replied gruffly that what he had known Maloon a very long time and that what he knows about Meloon was between him and Meloon and no one else. However, he uncharacteristically told Tempus that Meloon had been acting strangely, often having long conversations with himself in his room before dawn.

The next morning, Durnan allowed Tempus into the Yawning Portal before dawn. Tempus sent his familiar, Edward the Bat, to sneak into Meloon's room to observe discretely. He saw Meloon having a tense argument with his axe, Azuredge, as if he was speaking to an invisible person that couldn't be heard. Meloon's voice was different. He said, "It doesn't matter. He's mine now, which means YOU'RE mine now! - I don't care! - You will do as I command! - Enough!" The argument ended with Meloon having a silent staring contest with his axe for nearly an hour.

At first, Tempus suspected that Meloon was somehow being controlled by the axe. After doing some research on the axe an its history, he changed his assessment to suspecting that Meloon was being mind-controlled by some other force which the axe was resisting.

He brought his conclusions to the Blackstaff on day six. The Blackstaff admitted that she had already suspected this and was trying to determine who or what was controlling him. She instructed Tempus to continue observing. She needed more information.

Tempus later enlisted the aid of the other Mystics of Trollskull Manor to engage Meloon in conversation in an attempt to draw out more information.

He gave his final report to the Blackstaff after a full ten-day. She told Tempus that she believed that, during his last foray into the Undermountain a year ago, Meloon had fallen victim to an "intellect devourer" which had consumed Meloon's brain and had subsequently taken control of his body. Tempus mentioned that he had encountered such a creature before within the lair of the Xanathar's Guild. It was a pet of a strange humanoid with the head of an octopus. The Blackstaff said his name was Nihiloor, second in command of the Xanathar's Guild. She wondered if Meloon's maladay was related in some what to the Guild.

She thanked Tempus for his aid.

An Awkward House Guest

Meanwhile, Push-ta's house guest, the dwarf named "Jorn", was making himself at home. Push-ta was spending his nights with Etlenda patrolling the cemetery. He would return home at dawn each day and sleep until noon. A few days into his stay, Jorn began making very specific requests of Push-ta - such as requiring pastries from a very specific shop on the far side of town, sending Push-ta on long multi-stop errands, and kicking Push-ta out of his own room in order to facilitate meetings. Push-ta came home to find all his own furniture replaced with Jorn's. Push-ta was reaching the end of his patience.

Jorn hired workers to make repairs to the house, technically fulfilling part of his deal, but the repairs were done to Jorn's specifications, overriding those of the Mystics.

One night, while he was leaving early to go visit the Yawning Portal, Tempus saw a female dwarf wearing night clothes come down to the common room, prepare a drink, give Tempus a familiar nod, and return to Push-ta's room.

The other Mystics occasionally saw winged snakes fly out of Push-ta's windows, only to become immediately invisible. Winterfrost even found a flying snake curled up sleeping in the hall!

Push-ta had just about had enough. He had vowed to himself that after this was over, he would work to get his revenge on Jorn. He endured, however, and after ten days Push-ta returned from the cemetery to find that Jorn returned moved out. His furniture had been returned. On his bed was Jorn's hat, a bag full of platinum suns, and a note that said, "I apologize for the inconvenience of the last ten days. You have done well. You have earned this reward and you have earned a promotion within the organization - Wolf of the Zhentarim."

On Dasher

On the fourth day of his guest's stay, Jorn gave Push-ta a mission. Jorn told Push-ta, "Waterdeep’s richest halfling family, the Snobeedles, is offering 500 gold pieces for information leading to the safe return of a missing family member named Dasher Snobeedle. Those dragons sure would look good in our coffers! Investigate and see what you can learn, but don’t get in any trouble. The City Watch already has it out for us."

Winterfrost joined Push-ta and the pair went outside the city to the Snowbeedle estate. There they met Blossom Snobeedle, an elder druid and matriarch of the Snobeedle family. She told Push-ta that her grandson, Dasher, had ran away from home. She didn't want Push-ta to return her grandson against his will. More than anything else, she needed to know he was alive and safe.

Push-ta took the job and spent several days asking around the Southern Ward. Their inquiries paid off and Push-ta convinced some halfling street toughs to arrange a meeting between Push-ta and the wayward Dasher.

Dasher met them at highsun at huge signpost near Waymoot by the Southern Gate. Dasher had greased back hair and wore a leather jacket. He informed Push-ta that he had rejected his old family, he had a new family! He turned around and showed the logo painted onto the back of his jacket - the Shard Shunners!

Push-ta and Winterfrost looked around and saw several other halflings wearing similar jackets - there were at least a dozen others.

After Dasher told them to get lost, they returned to the Snobeedle estate to provide an update to Blossom. Blossom thanked them and arranged their payment.

Exterminate Us

On the evening of the seventh day, Savra Belabranta of the Order of the Gauntlet visited Trollskull Manor to deliver Tempus a mission: "Guards at the Endshift Tavern, located on Endshift Street in the Field Ward, are being robbed nightly, and the innkeeper says he’s seen giant rats prowling around the back alleys. Sounds dull, but it’s a plea for help that we can’t ignore."

Tempus took the mission. Etlenda accompanied him to the Endshift Tavern. A little while later three guards from the city watch entered the tavern. It was snowing outside. They were cold and tired and unhappy with having to patrol the Field Ward in search of Zhentarim. The trio proceeded to order tankards of ale.

Tempus spotted three halflings eyeing the guards suspiciously. Once the guards got up to leave and return to their barracks, the three halflings got up to follow.

Tempus and Etlenda intercepted the halflings and warned them against committing any crimes. The halflings, taken aback by being called out, nervously agreed. They exited the tavern with hats held in hand, bowing and nodding.

Tempus sent his bat, Edward, to follow the halflings. He saw them run into a side alley where they turned into giant rats and scurried into hiding places.

Tempus told Etlenda what he saw. Etlenda agreed that taking on were-rats was far beyond their areas of expertise and decided to let it go.

Suffer Not the Liars

On the ninth day, Etlenda received a message delivered in a melodious male voice by a white cat, "Etlenda, the Emerald Enclave is in need of your services. Doppelgangers threaten the balance of power in Waterdeep. Rumor has it a group of them are meeting in the Yawning Portal tonight after sundown. Root them out and rid the city of them if you can."

Etlenda enlisted the services of his companions and met Tempus already at the Yawning Portal. They asked Durnan if he knew of any doppelgangers meeting in his establishment. Durnan replied gruffly that the business of his patrons is their own and not for him to disclose. But, however, he was a concerned citizen of Waterdeep nonetheless. If there were anything like that going on, it wouldn't be for another hour or so and would have to be in the private room.

The Mystics of Trollskull Manor positioned themselves to covertly observe the room. At the indicated time, several individuals entered the tavern, each entering alone, and furtively made their way to the back room. Durnan gave a silent nod indicating that all were present.

Push-ta and Kem Hearthfire were positioned outside the tavern to prevent escape through windows. Tempus and Winterfrost stood watch outside the door to the private room. Etlenda listened at the door. He heard snippets including "The time to strike draws near!" and "Our plans are finally coming to fruition. We are all in position - exactly where we need to be."

Etlenda threw open the door and entered.

A woman, a housekeeper by her appearance, was standing at the head of a table of various representatives of Waterdeep, each from various classes and positions of power. "Excuse me! This is a private meeting!"

"Enough!" shouted Etlenda, his short but massive frame exuding menace, "I was sent here by the Emerald Enclave. We know who you are and know your plans. I am here to tell you that you have failed! The Emerald Enclave is giving you this opportunity to flee the city with your lives."

There was a pause. The char-woman glared at Etlenda. She then took a deep breath, "Well, I guess the jig is up. All right. You caught us. There's no point in pretending anymore if our plans have been foiled." She turned to her group, "Comrades, we have failed." She turned back to Etlenda, "We will leave Waterdeep tonight. You win."

Etlenda escorted them to the gates of the city.

Thrakkus the Butcher

After a ten-day had passed, the Mystics of Trollskull Manor returned to the old windmill in the Field Ward. The ground was covered in several inches of snow. There were several empty bottles lying scattered outside the door to the butcher shop.

They entered the butcher shop and met a burly dragonborn butcher with a hangover and a bad attitude. They asked Thrakkus about the stone of Golorr and demanded he tell them where they could find the stone. Thrakkus dismisses their questions with monosyllabic answers and low growls - he was in no mood to talk with outsiders.

With no valid reason to antagonize the butcher, the Mystics retreated to the alley outside. Since the rest of the building looked dilapidated with some doors standing ajar, they decided to take a look around.

Squatters

They entered the run-down structure that was once a windmill and heard the sound of crying children among women and men talking - the structure was filled with squatters.

They entered a nearby room and found a pair of squatters - two women - who cowered in fear at the intrusion. They said that Thrakkus allowed them to live in the structure and even gave them meat to eat as long as they did what he said. They knew nothing of the stone of Golorr nor had they any knowledge of a conspiracy.

Winterfrost offered the pair some trail rations to eat. One squatter wrinkled her nose at the hard dry biscuit while the other whispered, "Take it! Its better than what Thrakkus feeds us. We don't want to wind up like the others"

The other cautioned the first to keep her mouth shut - they didn't want to wind up like "the others".

The Mystics asked where Thrakkus lived and the pair indicated stairs at the end of the hall that led to an upper level.

The Mystics explored the upper level, finding more empty bottles - evidence of a week of binging and celebrating newly acquired wealth - as well as a new crossbow emblazoned with the symbol of the flying snake marking his affiliation with the Zhentarim, new clothes, and a recently repaired window. The other upstairs rooms had dangerously rotten floors or were home to pigeons.

The team returned downstairs and were met by a different squatter - a man. The man offered his help while holding out his hand and clearing his throat. He was offered a silver coin but the man shook his head, wiggling his fingers.

Etlenda became annoyed, "Really? This better be good!" and gave the man a golden dragon.

The man said that he has no idea where Thrakkus got his meat - deliveries happen in the middle of the night - but that he had been selling his butchered meat to shops throughout Waterdeep even in the depths of winter, when the culling of animals was typically curtailed. He said that his last delivery was a ten-day ago to a man named Justyn Rassk, a representative of the Guild of Butchers. He was instructed to deliver the meat to Cuttle's Meat Pies in the trade ward and was paid extra coin for the special delivery. Thrakkus must have been well paid for that meat for he closed his shop for a ten-day and spent much of the time drinking.

Each extra bit of information cost an additional gold coin.

The Larder

When asked where Thrakkus kept his meat, the man indicated the larder at the end of the hall. The door to the larder was made of stout wood and was padlocked from the outside. Push-ta used his picks to open the lock.

They entered a cold storage room filled with severed human limbs hanging from hooks or lying in piles on the ground.

Thrakkus the Butcher had been receiving human bodies, butchering them, and selling the meat to local establishments throughout Waterdeep!

The more intact bodies showed evidence of strangulation, cut throats, and other forms of execution. Many were members of Xanathar's Guild.

Fire engulfed Push-ta and Winterfrost. Tempus sent his bat familiar to harrass Thrakkus. Thrakkus swung his giant cleaver, catching the small bat against the wall, causing it to disappear in a puff of silvery smoke.

Tempus swore, "Dammit! Stop killing those! They cost me ten gold each!"

Thrakkus was soon overwhelmed by his opponents. The dragonborn fell to a bolt launched from Push-ta's crossbow.

A quick search of the larder revealed nothing else of value. Winterfrost was sent out to retrieve officers of the city watch to report what happened here. She returned an hour later having found none in the Field Ward.

The squatters stood in the doorway watching. The squatter who had given so much useful info said, "You don't have to stick around. We'll, uh, we'll take care of it." - indicating the body of Thrakkus. "Leave it to us." He grinned greedily and the other squatters behind him giggled suspiciously.

Etlenda told the other Mystics it was time to go. They had to find Cuttle's Meat Pies.

Tempus protested, "We can't leave them here - do you know what they're about to do?"

Etlenda used his arms to direct the others towards the exit, "Yes. I know. But I wish I didn't. Come on. Let's just go."
