The world of the elder aeon was ruled by Nagina Samrajya, the empire of the Naga and their servitors, the Ophidians (Yuan-Ti). They worshipped the Elder Gods of Chaos and controlled powerful magicks. Their empire fell when the world was struck by a powerful comet from beyond. This impact created what is known today as the sunken lands.
1000 Years Ago
In ancient times, the world was ruled by a race of men known as Erians. The Erians were the noble caste of the Nedula Madhya, also known as the Agarthan Empire. The Erians worshipped the gods known as the Uuani, deities we today would call devils.
The Agarthans waged a great war with Khunkhara Vyakti, the empire of the Azi (Dragonborn). Eventually, the Azi were defeated and enslaved by the Nedula Madhyans.
The power of Nedula Madhya became great, but their hubris brought their downfall. The Uuani were overthrown by their rivals, the Aslak, and were imprisoned in the nine hells. The Aslak god Shaitan destroyed Nedula Madhya in a wave of destructive cataclysms. The great cities were toppled all over the continent, the imperial armies burned, their Erians, like the Uuani they worshipped, were cursed with infernal features.
Today, there are hundreds of small to medium-sized kingdoms, but nothing rivaling the power of ancient Nedula Madhya. Mostly it's thousands of independent city-states, each ruled by an Archon (originally a non-noble title equivalent to mayor, has become the noble equivalent to a baron since the fall of the empire).
Azi (Dragonborn) live in barbarian tribes found in inhospitable places across Agartha (jungles, mountains, deserts, badlands). The majority live in the mountainous deserts of the north where the empire Khunkhara Vyakti once stood.
The Erians are now second-class citizens, living in small enclaves in the new cities of Agartha or wandering the land in nomadic caravans.
80 Years Ago
The orcine hero Osgda united the tribes of the Red Orcs of Zinnober and threatened to lay waste to all the cities and villages of the Xanthus River Valley (and also north of Mount Zinnober).
Lacking a unified government or army, the various archons of the valley banded together to form a temporary alliance called the Aureate Compact. The militias and town guard of all the villages were unified under the leadership of Marshall Honn. Under his leadership, the orcs were defeated at the battle of Flinch. Thousands died that day and Flinch was destroyed. Osgda escaped.
40 Years Ago
The great Daro city of Duirndown fell to a combination of civil war and sacking by the Grey Orcs of Ravus led by the evil wizard Ezekiel. It was abandoned to the evil Derro and the gates sealed. Every few years, adventurers return with the key and venture into the bowels of Duirn's mountain.
